The famous Converse All-Stars worn by Michael Jordan in the early days of his career are expected to fetch big bucks on the auction block.Â
The white sneakers with splashes of navy on the Converse symbol and branding on the tongue were instrumental in Jordan’s pre-Nike sneaker deal. The iconic player wore the shoes during the 1983 Pan-Am games while playing for Team USA. Jordan was still a college junior at the University of North Carolina when he joined the team. It was during that big game that he landed his first gold medal, all in his famed Converse’s.Â
Grey Flannel Auctions is the platform that has acquired this one-of-a-kind find. The 1983 Team USA graduate assistant coach Jack Hartman, who was close to Jordan at the time, was the owner of the shoes for about 40 years. The site sports hundreds of rare memorabilia going for thousands, and Jordan’s Converse’s are no exception. Minimum bidding begins at $10,000. At the time of this writing, the highest offer stood at $16,106, with six people having placed bids on the size 12.5 sneaker. What makes the shoes so special is that they are the earliest known game sneakers worn by Jordan.Â
Potential buyers have until June 11th to place their bids. The sneakers will be delivered to the lucky highest bidder with a letter of provenance from Hartman, as well as a photo match Letter of Authenticity from RGU Photo Match Authentication and a photo match Letter of Authenticity from Resolution Photo Matching.
