The minor at the center of the Josh Giddey scandal is refusing to cooperate with the investigation.
The supposed underage girl is said to be a high school junior who was either 15 or 16 when the alleged inappropriate relationship began. The Newport Beach Police Department has been investigating the nature of Giddey’s contact with the girl. However, their probe has now stalled after the teenager and her family refused to cooperate.
The 21-year-old Oklahoma City Thunder player made headlines last week when a Twitter account shared a photo of Giddey shirtless with the young girl. Words on one of the images read, “Just f****d Josh Giddey.” In a video also posted by the account, Giddey is seen with the alleged minor saying, “With my girl. About to head back to mine.”
In another clip that has surfaced online, Giddey is seen dancing alongside a girl in a nightclub, which raises further questions about her true age. Nevertheless, Giddey may soon be off the hook altogether if the Newport Beach Police are unable to secure evidence, especially now that the girl and her parents don’t seem interested in criminal charges.
Giddey has still been allowed to play despite an open investigation. This is something that fans have called out. During the Thunder’s recent game against the Timberwolves, Giddey was booed throughout the game. Others on social media have called out the NBA for seemingly covering Giddey during his legal troubles.
