JT reveals some advice she’s gotten from Nicki Minaj while discussing her musical career.
The City Girls rapper recently sat down with Angie Martinez for a new episode of her IRL podcast. During the interview, JT addressed her childhood and her journey on becoming the woman she is today.
The Florida native touched on handling the music industry and being strong-minded in your profession.
“But it’s like so much you see a day that it’s like, you have to become strong-minded enough to know what you came here for,” JT said. “Get it done and be great at that. And I feel like that’s what I was lacking over the years. Somebody so special to me told me that.”
Martinez then asked JT who gave her the advice and questioned if it was her boo. JT laughed off the question but says he gives her advice as well.
“It was a female and she’s a rapper. She just got the most toughest love ever. She’ll tell you some sh*t and the moment..,” JT adds before Martinez interrupts and asks if she was referring to Nicki Minaj.
JT confirmed that she was speaking on Minaj and finished her statement.
“Yea. And you’ll think about it like she so right,” the rapper continued. “You got this talent. You got this gift, you can write this down. And not too many people can do this. So you need to come and do what you need to do. You need to go as hard as you can. You can’t think about outside opinions.”
Elsewhere in the interview, JT also spoke on being labeled an “angry black girl.”
“The internet has painted me as this angry Black girl,” she said. “Like, ‘She always mad. She always got an attitude.’ … That really bothers me because it’s, like, y’all don’t even know me.”
