Judge Greg Mathis, best known for his no-nonsense style on his courtroom TV show, is now navigating his own personal drama. His wife, Linda Mathis, filed for divorce after nearly 40 years of marriage, citing irreconcilable differences.
TMZ caught up with Judge Mathis at LAX on Friday, where he opened up about his emotional state and how he’s dealing with the divorce. “I’m not good… It’s the worst days of my life,” he admitted. Mathis shared that he’s finding it difficult to cope, stating, “I’m not holding up very well.”
He revealed that his hectic career and lifestyle contributed to their separation, acknowledging that he may have neglected his wife over the years.
“I’m here at the airport now, flying out as I have for 25 years… My wife has been third, serving the community, taping my show, having fun with friends,” he said. He used his situation as a cautionary tale for others, advising, “Never be too busy or have too much fun beyond your life.”
Despite the separation, which began on July 17 according to court documents, Mathis remains hopeful. The couple still share a home, and he expressed his determination to reconcile. “I’m trying to get my wife back,” he said. “I have to show her that… Hopefully, I can show her while we’re there together, and hopefully, she doesn’t complete the process.”
Mathis also took the opportunity to address and dismiss rumors of infidelity or other serious allegations. He clarified that the main issue was his prolonged absences and neglect of their relationship, not any kind of misconduct.
