Young Thug Maintains His Innocence Despite Plea Deal: "Pleading to Something You Know That You Didn’t Do Is Crazy"

A judge has ruled that lyrics will be allowed in the Young Thug RICO trial.

On Thursday, Fulton County Superior Court Judge Ural Glanville announced the decision, which has been a point of debate for months. Legal experts have argued whether or not using lyrics in trials is fair. However, Glanville agreed with prosecutors that Thug’s music should be utilized. The day prior, Fulton County Assistant District Attorney Mike Carlson said the lyrics would be presented to “prove the nature of YSL as a racketeering enterprise” and “the expectations of YSL as a criminal street gang.”

Even with Glanville making the decision, he stated that the songs would only be employed in a limited capacity, “depending upon or subject to a foundation that is properly laid by the state.” Thug is being accused of using his music to document crimes, such as allegedly shooting up the home of YFN Lucci’s mother. Prosecutors also claim he rapped about gang activities, as did the others involved in the RICO case.

The highly publicized RICO trial will finally get underway on November 27th. Several of his associates in the case have already been sentenced or accepted plea deals. This includes Gunna. The rapper pleaded guilty to one count of racketeering conspiracy and had his potential five-year sentence commuted to time served with a required 500 hours of community service. YSL associate Jayden Myrick received a life sentence last month for felony murder, while Lil Duke and Slimelife Shawty both pleaded guilty to conspiracy to violate Georgia’s RICO Act. Similar to Gunna, both were released, also having their sentences commuted to time served.

Young Thug has pleaded not guilty to all charges against him.
