Porsha Williams has secured a victory in her divorce case against Simon Guobadia. According to PEOPLE, in a recent court ruling, the judge granted Williams’ request to block Guobadia’s subpoena for a videotaped deposition of her employer, RHOA production company True Entertainment. The judge also issued a protective order to stop further invasive discovery attempts by Guobadia.
Along with this, the court rejected Guobadia’s emergency motions concerning discovery and ordered him to pay Williams’ legal fees and litigation costs.
At the center of the legal battle is the couple’s prenuptial agreement, which Guobadia has been trying to challenge.
Guobadia claimed that Williams had failed to fully disclose her intention to continue her career in reality television or other jobs, which he argued would make their prenuptial agreement invalid. He also stated that Williams had agreed to be a stay-at-home wife and mother during their marriage. However, the court found these claims to be without merit, noting that Guobadia knew Williams had a career in reality TV when they signed the prenup.
The judge’s ruling said, “Wife has been a reality TV celebrity for years, which was well known to Husband at the time of negotiating the Prenuptial Agreement, and Husband nevertheless married Wife with this knowledge.” This statement underlined that Guobadia could not claim he was misled about her professional ambitions.
Williams was a star on The Real Housewives of Atlanta from seasons 5 to 13, leaving the show in September 2021 after announcing her engagement to Guobadia in May of that year. She is set to return for the 16th season, which was announced earlier this year.
The prenuptial agreement was designed to prevent lengthy and expensive legal battles in the event of a divorce. The court highlighted that the agreement was carefully negotiated over a year, with both sides represented by skilled lawyers, and included full financial disclosures. Because of this, the court found no grounds for claims of fraud, mistake, misrepresentation, or pressure.
The ruling further stated, “Essentially, the crux of Husband’s argument could have been explicitly contained within the four corners of the parties’ Prenuptial Agreement, and it was not,” which dismissed his attempt to dispute the prenup’s validity.
This decision is a significant win for Williams as she moves closer to finalizing the divorce. With the prenuptial agreement likely to be upheld, Williams is expected to have her legal costs covered by Guobadia and will soon be officially divorced.
Williams filed for divorce in February after 15 months of marriage, describing their relationship as “irretrievably broken.” Since then, the divorce has involved disagreements over the validity of the prenup, the status of their shared home, and Williams’ financial situation, especially after her recent deal with NBC Universal.
Throughout the process, Williams has pushed back against Guobadia’s claims, accusing him of making “false statements and allegations” that “intentionally misrepresent the reality of the situation.”
