Carmella Wallace, the mother of late rapper Juice WRLD, has broken her silence on the passing of her son, hoping that his untimely death can be used to help other young people battling addiction.
“We loved Jarad with all of our hearts and cannot believe our time with him has been cut short. As he often addressed in his music and to his fans, Jarad battled with prescription drug dependency.” Wallace said in a statement, exclusively released to TMZ.
Juice WRLD, whose real name is Jarad Anthony Higgins, had been transparent about his struggles with drug addiction in his music, attracting young fans who were also going through similar issues. But, Wallace hopes Juice WRLD’s music and transparency about his afflictions will help others to beat their addictions.
“We hope the conversations he started in his music and his legacy will help others win their battles as that is what he wanted more than anything,” she said, ending her statement.
The 21-year-old passed away after suffering a seizure in a Chicago airport this past Sunday after allegedly swallowing multiple Percocet pills.
