Jussie Smollett’s legal team is following through with that appeal. Jussie is now asking for a new trial because he disapproved of the jury selection.
According to legal documents obtained by TMZ, Jussie’s defense team wants the judge to overturn the guilty verdict or give him a new trial.
The ‘Empire’ actor claims the court violated his constitutional rights after not allowing his team to participate in the jury selection. Jussie says his lawyers couldn’t ask the jurors any questions, and the jury pool was tainted. He also states that the prosecutors had a pattern of racism while picking the jury and pressured witnesses to give inaccurate statements.
On top of that, Jussie’s team claims the judge wrongfully barred the public and media from entering the courtroom. To make matters worse, the defense team says the judge didn’t allow them to question the witnesses.
If you’re not aware, Jussie claimed he was a victim of a homophobic and racist attack. He was found guilty on five felony counts for disorderly conduct and allegedly providing a false report to cops.
