#FreeJussieSmollett will soon be Jussie Smollett is free, as the actor is on his way home as his appeal process plays out.
As expected, the disgraced “Empire” star has appealed his five-month sentence. Only days into his jail sentence, a judge has ruled that Smollett can walk free if he posts a $150,000 bond. Smollett’s attorneys argued that Smollett could be at risk for physical harm by other inmates if he remains in Cook County Jail. They also claimed that by the time the appeal process was concluded, he would have served his term.
The 39-year-old began serving his sentence last Thursday, despite maintaining his innocence. Tina Knowles and his “Empire” co-host Taraji P. Henson are among the celebrities who have shown their support for Smollett. His siblings, Jake and actress Jurnee Smollett have also stood by their brother and are actively fighting to clear his name.
Smollett was found guilty of concocting a hate crime hoax, claiming that Maga supporters attacked him in downtown Chicago in 2019. Prosecutors say the actor staged the event for publicity and to increase his salary on “Empire.”
