Jussie Smollett won’t be bringing home an NAACP award this year.
The “Empire” actor had already lost in his category for ‘Best Supporting Actor’ on Friday Night during an untelevised portion of the awards show.
According to The Blast, Jessie Williams won for his role on “Grey’s Anatomy” and Jussie ended up not even bothering to attend the annual dinner.
Smollett left for Los Angeles, reportedly to attend the awards festivities, but also to escape the relentless smear campaign being led by Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel and the Chicago Police Department.
While it was originally believed that Jussie would attend the award show, he ended up skipping the event altogether.
There’s still no word on how Empire producers will move forward with his character on the show from this point on, especially since his character has been written out of the final episodes.
The televised portion of the awards show, hosted by “Black-ish” star Anthony Anderson took place Saturday night in Hollywood.
