Jussie Smollett says he believes he received jail time because of the color of his skin.
According to TMZ, sources close to the actor say Jussie knew he would be given a harsher sentence than other non-violent criminals. Jussie told his team prior to sentencing that his outcome would be a result of systemic racism.
Jussie was accurate with his prediction and said he expected nothing less based on the judge’s animosity towards him. During the trial, the judge stated Jussie’s hoax stemmed from his need for more attention and fame.
Jussie received his fate on Thursday and will serve his 150-day sentence in protective custody, per his request. While behind bars, Jussie will have security cameras on him at all times and an officer wearing a body cam that monitors his cell.
