Jussie Smollett’s PR team says “every iota” of their client’s account of being a victim of a hate crime is proven and supported by police evidence, despite the department claiming it was staged.
On Wednesday, a statement was emailed, following documents that were filed on Monday, defending a lawsuit to recoup costs of an investigation that officials say was a hoax. The statement said, “every iota of information … Smollett has stated has been fully corroborated,” according to Page Six.
The statement didn’t go into detail about what evidence supports Smollett’s attack; however, GPS data, video, and other evidence prove Smollett paid the men to verbally and physically assault him. Thought it was also found that police had mishandled and announced false information regarding the Smollett’s case.
The entire ordeal happened back in January when Smollett claimed he was attacked in Chicago’s Streeterville neighborhood. Police claim Smollett plotted the attack himself with the help of two brothers. However, charges against the “Empire” actor were dropped in late February with the agreement that Smollett would participate in community service and forfeiture of his $10,000 bond payment.
