Justin Timberlake found himself in hot water earlier this week after being arrested for driving while intoxicated. Despite the legal trouble, the singer has taken a moment to express his heartfelt thanks to his fans for sticking by him.
On Friday, June 21, Timberlake took the stage at the United Center in Chicago, kicking off the first of his two-night performance. Amidst his electrifying performance, he paused to address the crowd and reflect on his recent mistakes, showing immense appreciation for his fans’ unwavering support.
“We’ve been together through ups and downs, lefts and rights,” Timberlake shared with the audience, who responded with a standing ovation. Clearly emotional, he continued, “It’s been a tough week, but you’re here, and I’m here. I know I’m hard to love sometimes, but you keep loving me right back.”
The incident that led to his arrest occurred in mid-June in New York. Timberlake was stopped by the Sag Harbor Police Department after allegedly failing to stop at a posted sign and not maintaining his lane while driving a 2025 BMW. Reports state that he refused a breathalyzer test, which led to a single charge of driving while intoxicated. His lawyer, Edward Burke Jr., addressed the situation, stating, “The charge was a single count because he refused the breath test. Mr. Timberlake was also charged with two other court citations, running a stop sign and not traveling in the correct traffic lane.”
Burke also mentioned, “We look forward to vigorously defending Mr. Timberlake against these allegations. He will have a lot to say at the appropriate time. He is currently awaiting full discovery from the DA’s office.”
According to the police report, Timberlake exhibited signs of intoxication, including bloodshot and glassy eyes, a strong smell of alcohol on his breath, slowed speech, and unsteady movement. Legal documents quoted Timberlake saying, “I had one martini and I followed my friends home.”
Timberlake’s next court date is set for July 26, coinciding with his scheduled performance in Poland as part of his Forget Tomorrow Tour.
