Before she takes her place as the next Vice President, Kamala Harris will officially resign from her U.S. Senate seat on Monday.
According to CNN, the move comes two days before Harris makes history when she is inaugurated on Wednesday. Harris will become the first female, first Black, and first South Asian vice president.
Harris’ aides claim she already started her resignation process, having notified California Gov. Gavin Newsom of her intent and sent formal notifications that she’ll be resigning Monday.
VP- Elect Harris will not give a farewell speech on the Senate floor due to scheduling.
Harris is ending her four year Senate career to advance to her position in the White House. She won her seat in November 2016 and was sworn in January 2017, after serving as California’s attorney general.
