After a first full-time season that many felt ended on a rough note, Burruss says she advised her friend that she is under no pressure to come back.
Speaking in a recent livestream, Burruss explained that she told Morton her life and happiness don’t depend on the Bravo series. “I told Shamea a few things. One, she really don’t need that show. If she doesn’t want to go back, she doesn’t have to, and she will be just fine. She can live her best life, she has a wonderful marriage, and a wonderful family.”
While Burruss made it clear that Morton doesn’t need to return, she also offered guidance in case she decides to rejoin the cast.
“If she chooses to go back, then definitely don’t hold back on her feelings,” Burruss said, suggesting Morton be more vocal about her perspective.
Addressing the tension between Morton and Porsha Williams, Burruss shared that she believes the conflict started long before the cameras started rolling.
“I don’t really think that she lied. First of all, this is not me picking sides between the two. I feel like there were issues in the friendship prior, and I feel like Shamea should have said something before instead of just acting like everything was okay. Sometimes when things aren’t okay, it’s okay for you to have an attitude about it.”
Burruss explained that avoiding the topic may have made the situation worse.
“Trying to be passive about things allowed it to come back later, like, ‘Oh, you weren’t tripping all this time, but now you want to trip.'” No, really it had been bothering her the whole time, and she should have just said that.”
The Grammy-winning songwriter also noted that the show’s format makes it harder to resolve friendships naturally.
“The show itself is going to make it hard for the two of them to fix any friendship because when you’re on TV and you’re real friends with somebody and y’all have a back and forth…it’s not allowed to happen when you’re on television together. When we fall out, then they’re going to make us keep bringing it back up, everybody gets to have an opinion about it, it’s got to go viral, it’s about to be a mess.”
For that reason, Burruss believes Morton will need to approach Season 17 carefully if she returns.
“Either she just needs to address how she feels and be fully transparent or nah,” she added.
