Xscape is back and still kickin’ it, with a reality television show, a forthcoming reunion tour and possibly a new movie. But, it appears all four members aren’t on the same page, as Kandi Burruss recently revealed that she would not be releasing new music with the group.
According to PEOPLE, the singer-turned-reality-star and businesswoman said a reunion was never really part of her plans.
“What happened was a network was going to do an unauthorized movie about us, and of course I’m not going to let somebody take my legacy. So I called my group members and we were all able to have a conversation to start trying to get our story told the right way,” Kandi told the publication.
“I was like, I need a public apology,” Kandi added, referencing a longstanding feud between herself and Tamika Scott, who claimed the singer slept with Jermaine Dupri and his father. Although the JD portion of the story was true, which Kandi confirmed on Bravo’s ‘Watch What Happens Live,’ she wanted an apology for the father portion. “She’s going to have to say to the world that the stuff that she said about me was a lie. And so in doing that – we did it on the radio – and the radio disc jockey, he’s like, ‘Oh, Xscape is back!’ I was like, ‘Xscape is not back!’ All of a sudden we started getting all these offers to perform and do shows, so I went with the flow for the moment.”
Though the two have worked through their differences enough to coexist, the issue between Kandi and the rest of the girl group members has yet to be completely resolved.
“It’s always drama,” Kandi continued. “We all think differently when it comes to handling business, or at least, the three of them think differently than me. It’s always them three against me, and I feel like I’m always made to be the villain. It’s really irritating and stressful.”
But, as time goes on, although she didn’t want a reunion at the moment, she is “enjoying this time because of the fans.”
