As the Kansas City Chiefs prepare for the super bowl, their assistant coach Britt Reid, who is the son of their head coach Andy Reid, is under investigation for his involvement in a multi-vehicle crash that sent two young children to the hospital, leaving one with life-threatening injuries on Thursday night.
According to CNN, the police in Kansas City, Missouri, said three vehicles were involved in the crash on the southbound ramp onto Interstate 435 from Stadium Drive near the Chief’s Arrowhead Stadium.
The cops said it started when a stalled Chevy Impala was on the ramp, and the driver was waiting for family members to arrive and assist them. Once the driver’s family member arrived, they parked their Chevy Traverse south of the disabled car, and soon after, a Dodge Ram truck struck both vehicles. Two children, a 4-year-old and a 5-year-old seated in the family member’s Traverse, were transported to a local area hospital, with the 5-year-old suffering from life-threatening injuries, the cops said.
According to the police incident report, both drivers of the Impala and Traverse were not injured in the crash, but police said the driver of the truck (believed to be Britt Reid) did sustain non-life-threatening injuries and was currently being investigated for impairment.
A police search warrant obtained by CNN stated that Reid told a responding officer at the scene that he had consumed “two to three” drinks after the officer discerned an odor of alcohol “emanating” from Reid as well as “bloodshot and red” eyes.
The 35-year-old Reid also admitted to the police outright that he takes prescription Adderall. The officer on the scene then conducted a field sobriety test and observed signs of impairment in Reid.
