Kanye West wanted to ensure children in Chicago had a great holiday by supplying them with over 4,000 toys.
On Sunday, the Chi-Town native held the massive toy giveaway inside the Kennedy King College in Englewood gymnasium. Ye partnered with several organizations, including 9 Mag and Black Men United, to present families in need with games, prizes, and food during the toy drive. Children also got a chance to take a photo with Santa Claus.
While Yeezy himself was not present at the occasion, Chicago politician Stephanie Coleman called the rapper a “hometown hero” and thanked him for helping many children who may have gone without any gifts this holiday season.
“Some are without their fathers due to gun violence, due to mass incarceration, so today, we are here being a blessing,” Coleman said during the festivities.
Englewood resident and father of five Joseph Williams attended the toy drive and praised the many organizations that came together to “bless the Englewood community.”
“So many families can benefit from something like this,” he stated.
The kind gesture is the most recent in Ye’s string of good deeds. After vowing to end homelessness last year, the sneaker mogul has been campaigning to help as many people as possible. He recently met with LA Mission to discuss ways to fight homelessness in Los Angeles, specifically in the Skid Row area. He also revealed that he would be transforming all of his homes into churches and shelters for the homeless next year.
