Kanye West Demands Netflix to 'Open the Edit Room Immediately' Before Release of ‘Jeen-Yuhs’ Documentary, Wants to be ‘in Charge’ of His 'Own Image'

Kanye West Demands Netflix to ‘Open the Edit Room Immediately’ Before Release of ‘Jeen-Yuhs’ Documentary, Wants to be ‘in Charge’ of His ‘Own Image’

It appears Kanye West is demanding that he “must get final edit and approval” before unveiling the three-part documentary ‘Jeen-Yuhs: A Kanye Trilogy,’ premiering on Netflix next month.

Early Friday, Ye wrote on Instagram that he was saying it “kindly for the last time,” adding that he wants to be “in charge” of his image.

“I’m going to say this kindly for the last time,” West said. “I must get final edit and approval on this doc before it releases on Netflix. Open the edit room immediately so I can be in charge of my own image. Thank you in advance.”

One of the most intriguing aspects of the three-part documentary project from Coodie & Chike (“Through the Wire” video directors) is that West had little involvement in the final product.

According to Variety’s Sundance coverage, West is indeed listed as a producer on the doc but “was not given final cut.”

Coodie recalled a conversation he had with Ye about the situation, “I said, ‘Dude, you have to trust me.’ And he did, 100 percent,” Coodie said, noting that “[West’s] team and the business people have gotten involved” and are “of course going to have their say.”

He explained that the purpose of the documentary (or any documentary, for that matter) isn’t to make the subject likable but rather the opposite.

“What makes the film special is that it’s not something definitive; it’s [Ye’s] journey through my vision,” he said.

You can stream the three-part documentary on Netflix starting Feb. 16.
