Larry Hoover Jr. says that Drake and Kanye West will be performing at a benefit concert to help bring his father home.
After the two hip-hop icons officially squashed their beef days ago, which was orchestrated by J. Prince, Hoover Jr. confirmed that the show would be taking place on December 9th.
“We’re going to get the word out to as many people as we can. We gotta let the powers that be know that we want Larry Hoover in our community. That’s gonna be a big way to do it,” he stated during his appearance on the Murder Master Music Show. Hoover Jr. also shared that the concert is a way to demonstrate how Black people can come together harmoniously for a great cause.
The senior Hoover was jailed in 1973 for murder but was convicted again in 1997 for drug conspiracy, extortion, and engaging in a criminal enterprise in his role as co-founder of the infamous Chicago gang, Gangster Disciples. He is currently serving six life sentences. Many major hip-hop acts have protested for Hoover’s freedom. West previously met with former President Donald Trump and pleaded for the now 70-year-old to be pardoned.
Last month, J. Prince upped his own efforts to free Hoover by working closely with Drake and Ye to help push the freedom efforts. On Wednesday, the respected Rap-A-Lot records founder posted a photo with both rappers, signifying that a truce had finally been reached and also confirmed that the performance was taking place.
As of now, Hoover Jr. says he does not know if other acts will be involved in the cause but hope that the star power of Champagne Papi and Yeezy is enough to bring awareness to the case that has spanned 50 years.
