Kanye West is facing a lawsuit from a paparazzi photographer who alleges assault, battery, and negligence following an incident.
The alleged incident occurred in January 2023 while Kanye was outside a sports academy in Ventura County, where he attended his daughter’s basketball game. Kim Kardashian, his ex-wife, was also in attendance. As per the lawsuit, after Lechmanik captured photographs of Kardashian entering the sports academy, she observed Ye outside his car engaging in a heated confrontation with another photographer. In response, she began recording the purported incident on her mobile phone.
According to photographer Nichol Lechmanik, she was simply performing her duties as a celebrity photojournalist when Kanye allegedly seized her phone and hurled it onto the street.
“He reached into my car as if he were going to hit me, he grabbed my phone out of my hand and then angrily threw it into the street,” Lechmanik said on Thursday during a press conference. “He caused so much fear that I have not been the same since.”
She added, “He has no right to assault me, batter me or cause me to be afraid to pursue my profession. I want Ye to know that he cannot do what he did to me without facing consequences. I am determined to stand up for myself to let him know that he must change his abhorrent behavior.”
After the incident, Lechmanik contacted emergency services and filed a police report. Earlier this year, the Ventura County District Attorney’s Office conducted an investigation and stated that Lechmanik chose not to pursue legal action against Kanye.
However, in her lawsuit, Lechmanik is now pursuing compensation, asserting that she has endured significant mental and emotional distress. She added that her ability to work has been hindered, resulting in a loss of earnings.
