Kanye West has signed a new 10-year deal with clothing brand Gap.
The Yeezy name has officially been extended to the Gap family. The new deal consists of the musician having his own clothing line within the Gap name called Yeezy Gap. Fans and followers of the rapper can expect the line to drop in the early months of 2021; the items will be available online and in Gap stores.
The studio says the design for the line will be “modern, elevated basics for men, women, and kids at accessible price points,” and Ye will act as creative director over the line and will manage how the clothes will be marketed. TMZ reports that Kanye solidified the deal this month, and it comes with the option to renew after five years. Gap plans on Yeezy, bringing in $1 billion in sales as a part of the deal.
Last year Gap only made $4.6 billion globally while Kanye’s Yeezy shoe line topped $1 billion in sales. The partnership seems to have come from a combination of manifestation and behind-the-scenes business moves. Back in 2015, West said he wanted to be the “Steve Jobs of the Gap,” saying that he always dreamed of being the fashion company’s creative director. Working at Gap was also one of the rapper’s teen jobs.
