Kanye West reportedly lost his cool during a court-ordered deposition earlier this week in his case with MyChannel. As a result, the company is seeking to bring sanctions totaling $63,000 against Yeezy.
The company has been fighting to have the rap star sit down for an in-person deposition. However, the judge, citing the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, allowed him to be deposed by Zoom. Last week, MyChannel’s lawyer filed an emergency motion to get Kanye in court, and he flipped out.Â
AllHipHop obtained court filings that show Yeezy called MyChannel’s lawyer, Michael Popok, who is white, “boy” repeatedly during the almost 10-minute meeting. At that point, Ye terminated the virtual conference.
Kanye berated Popok during the meeting, asking him if he was “f*cking stupid” and refused to look at the attorney. He also declined to answer any questions. Kanye then told Popok that he was lucky to be deposing the “richest Black man in America and a Black Trump supporter and that he couldn’t be bothered with the deposition because he had lives (and diets) to change.”
The communication further deteriorated between the two sides when Kanye put on a “full-face hood and head covering adorned with Jesus Christ’s image which obscured his face and muffled his voice.”
Kanye claimed MyChannel’s legal team didn’t have a right to see his face, refused to remove the mask, and bragged about his behavior. However, the rapper’s attorneys did nothing to rein their client in. Instead, they egged him on, saying, “that was some crazy sh*t.”
MyChannel is suing Kanye after he reneged on a business deal where he agreed to invest in the company. The hi-tech company claims they helped the rapper maximize the profits of his Sunday Service and Yeezy merchandise. But when it came time for him to invest, he cut ties instead. Now MyChannel is seeking more than $20 million in damages.
