Kanye West aka Ye made a surprise appearance at Sunday night’s BET Awards.
Dressed in a Hood By Air hoodie with his face fully masked, the Yeezy founder joined Babyface on stage to honor Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs while presenting the Bad Boy Records founder with his Lifetime Achievement Award.
“How do we crown our kings? How do we appreciate our kings? To think how far we could just make it off of inspiration,” Ye said.
Ye detailed how Diddy inspired him as he was on the rise as a producer who would often try to emulate earlier Bad Boy beats in his own records. Further in his speech, Kanye shared how Diddy broke down barriers for those after him.
“This man has survived a lot of stuff and broke down a lot of doors so we could be here today,” Kanye said. “He broke down so many doors about classism, taste, culture, swag. Puff, if I never told you…I love you.”
The 45-year-old even cracked a joke about how Puff inspired so many of his life choices, including his “wife” choice, noting that they both dated (married) women named Kim.
