Despite the fact Kanye West considers he and Trump to be friends, he has not been invited to perform during the inauguration ceremony.
Back in December, the chairman of Trump’s presidential inaugural committee, Tom Barrack, told CNN that Donald Trump had no plans of booking Kanye West for the big stage. “No, No. Kanye and Donald are good friends,” Barrack said. “Donald is a great admirer of Kanye, as we are all, but he is not performing at inauguration.”
This week Barrack added, “He considers himself a friend of the President-elect, but it’s not the venue. The venue we have for entertainment is filled out, it’s perfect, it’s going to be typically and traditionally American, and Kanye is a great guy but we just haven’t asked him to perform. We move on with our agenda.”
I guess Kanye West wasn’t typical and traditionally American enough, however what about Chrisette Michele? Shocking new reports have surfaced saying that singer Chrisette Michele could be performing during the inauguration. Could there be any truth to it?
New York Daily News reports that a deal was reached a week ago to have Chrisette Michele perform the inauguration. Due to fear of heavy criticism, especially after the backlash Jennifer Holliday received, NY Daily News’ sources say Michele’s camp chose to stay silent.
They say initially Chrisette Michele was tapped to perform the song perform the song “Intentional” with Travis Greene, Jonathan McReynolds, and Tye Tribbett — the same trio she sang with on BET’s “Celebration of Gospel” broadcast one year ago. However, that deal fell apart when two of the three singers declined the offer to sing for Trump. Chrisette Michele reportedly accepted the offer and will sing an R&B set, the source says.
Chrisette Michele has not confirmed these rumors and I hope they’re just that — rumors. Lord knows social media will not be happy with her if she actually goes through with this.
