Ever since Jay-Z released his 13th studio album, “4:44,” on Friday, in which he sent subtle shots towards his former little brother Kanye West, many have been wondering about what was to come for their relationship. We may now have the answer. According to TMZ, Kanye West has left Tidal, accusing the company of owing him over $3 million and Tidal is threatening to sue.
Last year, Yeezy placed “The Life Of Pablo” on Tidal exclusively, encouraging all of his fans to get the streaming service if they wanted to hear his new music. Reportedly, this move gained Tidal 1 1/2 million new subscribers. Kanye says he hasn’t been paid his commission for that.
A month ago, Kanye’s lawyers sent a letter to Tidal, terminating Ye’s contract and claiming the company was in breach. Lawyers on both sides worked for two weeks to resolve the issues, but nothing came of it. Two weeks ago, Kanye’s lawyers sent a 2nd letter, reiterating that the contract deal is over. Tidal fired back with a letter of their own, informing Kanye that as far as the company was concerned, they are still under an exclusive contract, therefore if he takes his talents to another streaming service, they will sue.
According to Kanye’s lawyers, Tidal also owes the rapper reimbursement for music videos. However, Tidal says Kanye never delivered the videos required by the contract.
Rumors of Jay-Z and Kanye’s friendship ending have been ongoing. Fans assumed something was up when “Watch The Throne 2” never came to fruition, but the rumors were confirmed years later when Kanye took to the stage at a Saint Pablo tour stop in Sacramento and called out Jay and Beyonce.
At the time Ye said, “Beyoncé, I was hurt because I heard that you said you wouldn’t perform unless you won Video of the Year over me and over ‘Hotline Bling.'” He also said, “I’ve been sent here to give y’all my truth even at the risk of my own life, my own success, my own career. Jay-Z—call me, bruh. You still ain’t called me. Jay-Z, I know you got killers. Please don’t send them at my head. Please call me. Talk to me like a man.”
According to Kanye, Jay-Z never called to check on him after Kim Kardashian was robbed in Paris. He also says their children have never played together.
On Friday, Jay-Z addressed Kanye’s onstage rant. In the song “Kill Jay-Z,” he says:
“I know people backstab you, I felt that too/But this ‘fuck everybody attitude’ ain’t natural/But you ain’t the same, this ain’t Kumba ‘Ye/But you got hurt because you did cool by ‘Ye /You give him $20 million without blinking/He gave you 20 minutes on stage, fuck what was he thinking?/’Fuck wrong with everybody?’ is what you saying/But if everyone is crazy, you’re the one that’s insane.”
It looks like this friendship is going to get messier before it gets better.
