Just over a month ago, #KanyeWest unleashed his true feelings about slavery during a tangent with TMZ. I’m sure we all remember the “slavery was a choice” comments.
Now in an interview with The NY Times, West is doubling down on his comments in a calmer way. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
“I felt that I knew people who voted for Trump that were celebrities that were scared to say that they liked him,” West said. “But they told me, and I liked him, and I’m not scared to say what I like.”
West went on to explain that his family didn’t necessarily agree. His own father visited him and told him that some of Trump’s policies were hurtful, while Kim Kardashian instructed West to publicly admit that he doesn’t agree with all of Trump’s policies. West agreed.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
“I hear Trump talk and I’m like, I like the way it sounds, knowing that there’s people who like me that don’t like the way it sounds,” he continued. When asked if he always likes what he hears Trump saying, he said, “No, I don’t agree with all of his policies.”

When it comes to West’s slavery comments, the rapper offered a bit of clarification.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
“I said the idea of sitting in something for 400 years sounds — sounds — like a choice to me, I never said it’s a choice. I never said slavery itself — like being shackled in chains — was a choice,” he said. “That’s why I went from slave to 400 years to mental prison to this and that. If you look at the clip you see the way my mind works.”

Although West’s outlandish opinion seemed to offend many, there were still no lasting effects. It seems that many people have forgiven the rapper. Thoughts?
