Kanye West has never been shy about going after what he wants. That was proved true yet again when the Chicago rapper turned gospel artist, reached out to actor Danny McBride to star in his biopic, as West.
McBride recounted the bizarre phone call from West to the Guardian while on a press run for his new HBO sitcom, “The Righteous Gemstones.” According to McBride, the request left him puzzled.
Kanye asked me to play him in a movie of his life. That was a pretty stunning phone call to get. I don’t know why he wanted me to do it. Maybe that sense of ego I’m able to portray? I have no clue.”
This is certainly not the first time that this story has been brought up. Last year, while on the Jimmy Kimmel show, McBride detailed the day West visited his home in South Carolina, pitching the idea to him in further detail.
“That was a pretty incredible day. Maybe someday we’ll make the film. Who knows?” he told Kimmel.
There is no word on when or if the project will ever come to fruition, as West is gearing up to take his popular Sunday Service on the road, while McBride is pretty booked and busy himself, with “The Righteous Gemstones,” which premiered in August 2019, already being ordered for a second season.
