There’s no denying Kanye West‘s talent, but over the years, fans, family, and friends have observed a shift in the rapper’s mental state. Throughout his career, he has never been one to hold his tongue.
With his polarizing personality—you either love him or hate him. Below are a few reasons why:
1. “George Bush Doesn’t Care About Black People” (2005)
After Hurricane Katrina, the Bush administration was criticized for being slow to respond, which many people assume was due to the large population of black people. Kanye’s remarks of “George Bush doesn’t care about black people,” became one of the rappers most infamous rants.
2. Taylor swift (2009)
Kanye made a notorious appearance at the MTV Video Music Awards, rudely interrupting the pop star’s speech, saying “Yo, Taylor I’m really happy for you. I’m going to let you finish, but Beyonce had one of the best videos of all time.”
Of course, at that time, he was adamant that Beyoncé deserved the award for “Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It)” instead.
A few years later, he told Nick Cannon that God told him to interrupt Taylor’s speech.
5. Amber Rose/ 30 showers (2015)
“It’s very hard for a woman to want to be with someone that’s with Amber Rose — I had to take 30 showers before I got with Kim,” Kanye claimed in a interview with The Breakfast Club.
As you’re aware, Kim’s rise to fame was largely attributed to a leaked sex tape with singer Ray J, so you can only imagine how Amber felt.
4. Slavery is a choice??? (2018)
During a visit to TMZ to discuss “free thought” after he wore Donald Trump’s “Make America Great Again” hat. West controversially stated, “When you hear about slavery for 400 years. For 400 years?! That sounds like a choice.”
This has to be one of Ye’s most offensive remarks seeing that he is a Black man.
5. Pete ‘Skete’Davidson (2022)
After Ye’s divorce from Kim Kardashian, the rapper began targeting former SNL star Pete Davidson for dating his ex-wife. Throughout the first few months of 2022, most of his rants and shared text messages were aimed at taunting the comedian.
“THE INTERNET HAS STILL NOT FOUND A DECENT PICTURE OF SKETE,” he said.
“IF YOU SEE SKETE IN REAL LIFE SCREAM AT [THE] LOOSER AT THE TOP OF YOUR LUNGS AND SAY KIMYE FOREVER.”
At one point, Kim begged the rapper to stop, saying “U are creating a dangerous and scary environment and someone will hurt Pete and this will all be your fault.”
In February, Pete ended up deactivating his Instagram account. “Ran Skete off the gram,” he captioned his post at the time. “Tell your mother I changed your name for life.”
