Late last week a young lady by the name of Miranda Wilhelm took to Instagram to share her story of dating FSU QB Karlos Williams. Karlos is currently being investigated for allegedly assaulting Miranda,
“Domestic violence is NEVER okay,” Miranda wrote, “I have learned why women keep secrets and [are] scared to come forward. I’m ashamed to say I did the same thing but I am ready to speak up for women in situations like myself. I pray one day everyone sees your true colors and for what you really are. This was done to me 2 nights ago by a man I lived with for two years and bared two children by. Hopefully therapy will help you one day fix this and your sons never even work their hands to hurt a woman, mind you a pregnant woman to this extent.” A former classmate even comments on the post saying that they’ve known Karlos to be violent since high school
Here’s where things get crazy. Miranda posted the above statement on Instagram on Friday and on Saturday,Tallahassee Police Department received a domestic battery complaint. Willhelm’s lawyer, however, says that it was not her who filed the complaint and that she did not speak to law enforcement. Investigators have not said who filed the complaint but in Florida, domestic violence investigations will typically continue even if the victim does not want to move forward.
FSU has not removed Williams (currently a senior) from the team and are aware of the investigation. Williams’ lawyer is pushing to end the domestic violence probe.
I actually don’t find it odd that Miranda, who has since deleted her Instagram, would post something like this then not cooperate with the law. This is typical battered woman behavior. They’re still together, she’s pregnant, already has one child and she’s stuck around through his abuse before so it makes all the sense in the world that she would now. They are young. I need her to value her life a lot more than this and not just say things for social media just to be saying them. Take action.
