It’s been one year since #KathyGriffin shared the gruesome photo of herself holding a fake decapitated Trump head. Although the photo caused Griffin a heap of trouble, from lost wages to lifestyle, the comedian is using the hard time as inspiration for her Laugh Your Head Off comedy tour, which kicks off Thursday in San Francisco.
“Every day that passes, more people realize not only was my photo literally harmless but completely legal,” Griffin said of her controversial photo. “The nice thing is that, after a year, several folks who were afraid to support me are (doing so) now, and that obviously signifies a real sea change.”
However, the comedian did warn that if you are sick of hearing about Trump, her show may not be the best fit for you. Instead, she plugged fellow comedian #KevinHart for the lack of political content at his shows.

“I do feel like this is such an anxiety-ridden time for everyone that there is a thirst for all kinds of comedy,” Griffin said. “And look, if you want to not hear about Trump at all, go see Kevin Hart. He doesn’t even mention Trump. I personally think that’s a p*ssy move because he’s a black man. But I guess he’s selling more tickets that I ever will.”

Social media quickly denounced Griffin’s comments and questioned what the comedian’s race had to do with speaking out against Trump.

Some of the dumbest hot takes on race and politics come from white liberals,” one user wrote, while Trump supporter Joy Villa said, “So this is the standard of comedy now? Kathy Griffin what went so wrong in your childhood that you descended this low? Kevin Hart won’t be bullied into attacking Trump. Leave it alone. Try a different approach with your life.” What are your thoughts?
