Kathy Griffin Reveals She is Free From Cancer

Comedian Kathy Griffin, 61, announced on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” last night that she is free from lung cancer.

On Tuesday night’s episode, she told the host her good news that she is officially in remission after undergoing surgery to remove half of her lung.

“I’m cancer-free,” Griffin stated. “I don’t know why, I had a tumor, right? And I’ve never smoked, and it was in there for 10 years. So get this, they took it out and found it in another scan.”

During the show she detailed the procedure to remove a portion of her lung, revealing that her doctor informed her it would resemble a “used condom.”

“And then he goes, ‘You can use that,’” he said of his simile. “And I just did – and insurance covered it.”

Griffin said her voice has changed because her vocal cords are still healing.

“It will heal, but I’m sort of enjoying it,” Griffin said. “I’m a good two octaves higher, I think … it’s higher than Mariah Carey.”

In early August Griffin announced that she had been diagnosed with lung cancer and that she had surgery days later. She stated the surgery “went well,” but it turned out to be more challenging than she had anticipated.

“To be honest, this cancer surgery was a little more than I had anticipated. Tonight will be my first night without any narcotic pain killers. Hello Tylenol, my new best friend!” she wrote on Instagram. “The last time I was in a hospital was in June 2020 when I tried to take my own life and overdosed on prescription pills.”

The former co-host of “Fashion Police” said she is stronger than ever and believes she can overcome her challenges without the use of medications.

“With over a year clean and drug free, I now know I can do this and anything I want without those devil pills,” she continued. “Y’know what? I fear drugs and addiction more than I fear cancer. So, I think I’ll be ok.”
