While appearing on Wednesday’s episode of “Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen,” Kathy Hilton confused Lizzo for “Precious” star Gabourey Sidibe.
Many Twitter users criticized Hilton for mistaking the two curvy black women; some even dubbed the incident “racist.”
In response to the clip, one user commented, “This is a pretty racist comment, but because the fans like Kathy, they’re laughing it off.”
Another person said, “Precious is not a real person. She’s the caricature of the overweight, poor, black girl. Evoking her name is insulting, as is pretending not to know who precious is after the ‘joke’ fell flat.”
Others defended Hilton, claiming that she just made a mistake that anyone could have made.
“They look a like … and why should Kathy know who Lizzo is … I hardly know who she is properly, and I’m 23 … yall are way way wayyy too sensitive over there in America .. don’t yall create a problem now,” said a fan.
While trying to recover from Hilton’s awkward comment, Cohen quickly moved on to the next famous person for her to identify.
