In arguably the biggest move in the NBA since the Golden State Warriors landed DeMarcus Cousins, the Toronto Raptors have just acquired Kawhi Leonard.
The move came as a trade with the Raptors’ DeMar DeRozan heading to the San Antonio Spurs, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.
Leonard and the Spurs have had a seemingly estranged relationship following the team’s medical diagnosis of Leonard’s quad injury during the season. The 27-year-old’s team disputed the initial diagnosis and opted to seek a second opinion from a private medical expert.

While Leonard only played nine games last season, prior to his hiatus, he made a name for himself as the league’s defensive player of the year and even made a run for league MVP.

It was also a well known fact that Leonard desired to be in LA, close to home. In fact, according to Chris Haynes, Leonard has no desire to play in Toronto. As for DeRozan, he’s made his mark on the Raptors as the team’s longest tenured All Star.

Though things have not been confirmed, a cryptic Instagram message left speculators to believe rumors that DeRozan was initially promised he would not be traded. ⠀⠀⠀

“Be told one thing & the outcome another. Can’t trust em. Ain’t no loyalty in this game. Sell you out quick for a little bit of nothing… Soon you’ll understand… Don’t disturb,” DeRozan wrote to IG just Tuesday.

According to Clutch Points, the Raptor’s President broke the news to DeRozan Tuesday night and now the deal is done.
