Keke Palmer Says Celeb Moms Snap Back Quick Because “It’s Part Of The Damn Gig”

Keke Palmer is adapting nicely to motherhood and giving some comforting advice to fellow new mothers.

The talk show host sat down with PEOPLE for its Pretty In Pink spread, where she gloated over being a mom to her son Leodis “Leo” Andrellton, whom she shares with partner Darius Jackson. During the chat, the 29-year-old shared that women should not feel pressure to conform to “snap back” culture. While she did praise those who wanted to get back in the gym to feel good about themselves, she stressed the importance of giving yourself grace after bringing life into the world.

“If it’s important to you, then hell yeah, put in the work, miss girl. Get you whatever diet you want to do or whatever workout regimen that works for you. And if that’s not what you’re worried about, then don’t worry about it,” Palmer said.

For Palmer, she says that after giving birth, she moved at her own pace with fitness and restoring her body. She revealed that she didn’t want to do much or speak with anyone for the first few weeks. Eventually, she snapped out of it and got more active, but not without the occasional trip through a drive-thru.

The “Nope” actress also dropped a few industry secrets regarding celebrities who seemingly “snap back” almost immediately after having their children. Images such as these can cause mothers to feel bad about their postpartum bodies. Palmer, who has worked nearly 20 years in the entertainment industry, explained that famous women who get in shape quickly after their kids only do so because “it’s part of the damn gig.”

Speaking of gigs, Palmer is fresh off the heels of her new project, “Big Boss,” a musical narrative accompanying her new album of the same name. The visual is available now on Amazon Music.
