Photographer Mike Mora, who is married to singer Kelis, has revealed that he was diagnosed with stage 4 stomach cancer.
The photographer shared the news in a series of emotional Instagram posts. Mora detailed how he began experiencing pains in his stomach and back and losing appetite while tending to the family’s farm. After several appointments with three specialists and having an endoscopic biopsy performed, Mora was diagnosed with gastric adenocarcinoma. Unfortunately, the disease had rapidly progressed, spreading to the lymph nodes in his back. Doctors have given him just 18 months to live. Mora noted that he is now in his 12th month.
“I want to be able to help those that might experience something, maybe, hopefully by showing that it’s possible to make it through,” he wrote on the photo of him being wheeled through the oncology section of UCLA Santa Monica hospital.
Mora thanked friends, family, and followers for their support in his latest post after revealing his grim health status.
“I am so grateful. It’s been emotional. But overall, I think it’s making me stronger,” Mora wrote.
Mora and the “Milkshake” singer were married in 2014. The couple shares two children, a son, Shepherd, and a daughter, Galilee. Kelis also has a 12-year-old son, Knight, from her previous marriage with rapper Nas.
Kelis has not publicly commented on her husband’s diagnosis.
