Kelly Rowland reportedly took an unexpected exit on NBC’s “Today” show Thursday morning after the star said her dressing room was not up to par.
The singer/actress was appearing as a guest on the 8 a.m. hour of “Today” and was to fill in for Jenna Bush Hager in the fourth hour as guest host of “Today with Hoda & Jenna.” But sources told Page Six there was an unexpected change of plans.
Rowland dropped out at the 11th hour because allegedly her dressing room wasn’t up to her liking, which left host Hoda Kotb scurrying to find a replacement.
“Kelly and her team were not happy. They did not like the dressing room, so they decided to pull her off the show, leaving [Kotb] without a guest host for the 10 a.m. hour,” a source familiar with the situation told Page Six.
The whole ordeal left some confused. According to sources, Rowland is “beloved at ‘Today.’
“…..It made no sense,” the source added.
Page Six reported that there was a dramatic game of “musical dressing rooms,” with Rowland and her team requesting a green room in another location because she didn’t like the one she was in.
But the room was occupied at the time by Jennifer Lopez, who was at the studio to promote her upcoming projects.
Apparently, dressing rooms on the ‘Today’ set are known to be some of the smallest in the industry, a source told the outlet. “They’re not nice. It’s the oldest building. There are major space limitations, [it’s] not glamorous. It’s not fresh flowers, and candles and gourmet food. It’s basically [a] white box.”
It was said that “Today” producers offered the former Destiny’s Child several other options.
“They didn’t want that. [The show] basically offered up as much as possible, but they weren’t happy with it, so they walked and they left,” the insider said.
A replacement was eventually found. Rita Ora volunteered and filled in for Rowland.
