Kelly Rowland’s father, 67 year old Christopher Lovett, says that his daughter was ripped away from him at 7 years old and he seeks so desperately to get back into her life before he dies.
“So many previous years have passed and I’m getting old,” says Lovett, “I just pray she comes back into my life before it’s too late.”
Lovett tells Star Magazine that Kelly’s mother, Doris, left him, taking Kelly with her and he hasn’t seen his daughter since. He’s admitted in the past that he was an alcoholic and often yelled at Kelly’s mom in front of her.
“It wasn’t physical between me and Kelly’s mom, but there were many days and nights when Kelly would be bawling her eyes out, clutching my leg begging me, ‘Please daddy stop shouting at mummy’. That image of her howling, begging me to stop will haunt me forever.”
Back in 2008 it was reported that Kelly Rowland had begun the search for her father to no avail. In 2011 Lovett came out from hiding to try and locate his X-Factor judge daughter.
“Whenever [Destiny’s Child] was on the cover of a magazine, I would call and beg them to tell her I was looking for her,” he says.
Kelly was quite the Daddy’s girl growing up. She has spoken of her father in the past, saying: “I don’t know where he is but I hope he’s not dead. That would break my heart.”
I hope that Kelly’s dad gets to reunite with his daughter and I sincerely hope that it’s for the right reasons. The amount of time that he has waited is a bit fishy to me, however.
