Fans hoping for a “Girlfriends” reboot may one day get their wish.
During a recent interview with Deadline, the prolific actor and director Kelsey Grammer, who executive produced the hit sitcom, hinted that he would not close the door on the show completely. For years, viewers have pleaded with showrunners to reboot the series, which ended abruptly in February 2008. Unfortunately, there was no series finale.
“I would love to reboot ‘Girlfriends.’ Of course, it would probably be a different kind of show, but we got ‘The Game’ back on, and that was wonderful. I don’t know if Paramount+ is gonna grab another season of that, but you never know,” he shared.
Throughout the years, there have been several theories regarding the actual reason for the show’s cancellation. Some people close to the show have attributed the show never coming back to high production costs and low ratings, while others have pointed to Jill Marie Jones’s exit as the reason. Either way, when “Girlfriends” arrived on Netflix, it allowed new fans and day ones to experience the show. The series stars, Jones, Golden Brooks, Persia White, Tracee Ellis Ross, and Reggie Hayes, have expressed an interest in rebooting the show, especially in an age where many films and shows are being re-imagined for a new audience.
“I think they should because I know many people who love that show and love those characters and would like to see them continue,” the Grammer added in his chat with Deadline.
This is the latest development, which offers a bit of hope to the loyal fanbase.
