Less than a week after a Los Angeles jury convicted Tory Lanez, real name Daystar Peterson, of shooting Houston superstar Megan Thee Stallion, previously recorded audio linked to the case has been leaked.
The 10-day trial included emotional testimony from Thee Stallion, herself, law enforcement officials, medical experts, and even a chaotic eyewitness recount, but it was the testimony, or lack thereof, from Meg’s ex-best friend and assistant that left many convinced there was more to the story. After detailing the July 12th incident in a recorded interview with prosecutors, Kelsey Harris disavowed her claims on the witness stand, pleading the fifth to questions about bribes and claiming to have been untruthful in previous statements under oath.
Initially, prosecutors were only allowed to play clips of Harris’ previous testimony, but after the defense suggested that her previous testimony was coerced, a judge allowed the jury to hear the entire 80-minute interview to prove otherwise, and unfortunately for the defense, that interview implicated Tory as the shooter.
Now, just days after Lanez spent his first Christmas behind bars, that 80-minute interview that many believe helped convict the rapper has been leaked online.
The interview began with Kelsey and her boyfriend, 1501 Entertainment exec Darien Smith, stating their names. Kelsey explained her relationship with Megan, how the two met, the nature of their relationship, and how the night in question unfolded.
She was clear and detailed in her explanation, as how she and Meg met Lanez at the Roc Nation brunch earlier that year. She said Kylie invited them to her house to “hang out” two days before at the W.A.P music video shoot. On July 12, Harris said they arrived at Kylie’s house around 6 pm or 7 pm, but Tory was not there.
As the night continued, Harris said she passed out, and when she woke back up, Tory had arrived, but everyone else had left. She said she then saw Tory interacting with Meg & Kylie.
“You can hear at the end of the pool Megan is just laughing uncontrollably. It wasn’t normal, I never heard her laugh like this, so you could kinda tell something was wrong,” Harris said. “Tory did call for my name. I acted like I didn’t hear it. Megan was like, you know, ‘No, come back, I heard that.’”
“Tory was going between Megan and Kylie, and E.J. said, ‘Kelsey, it’s time to go. Let’s go; it’s getting late. The alcohol consumption, like, it’s time to go,’ So I told Megan, ‘Hey, let’s go,’ and she didn’t want to leave.”
She said she then went upstairs to pack her bags, but E.J., Meg’s stylist, had already done it. She then loaded E.J.’s car, but Megan was still not ready to go. She then went to sit in Tory’s car with his driver, but shortly after, E.J. informed her that it was time to leave, once again, because Meg’s wig was sliding.
So, Harris said she went to get Megan and Tory, who remained in the pool with Kylie. After that, Meg said Tory was taking them home, so they transferred the luggage to his car, and Meg hopped in the front seat with Tory’s driver, with Harris in the back. Eventually, Harris said the driver went in to grab Tory, but he was resistant to getting into the car with her and Meg. So, they end up leaving.
E.J. leaves and goes home. Megan is still laughing but then remembers she forgot an item at Kylie’s house. So they return, and Megan hops out, and the driver goes back inside with her, but almost immediately, Kelsey said Meg & Tory rush out with Kylie, but she stays on her front porch.
“Megan jumps back in the front seat. Tory gets in the car, which, now he’s behind Quan, he’s behind the driver. I’m still behind the front passenger,” Harris said. “and Megan says, ‘Bitch, Kylie said we gotta get the f*ck outta here.”
Harris said she asked why and the driver explained that they were arguing, to which Harris assumed Meg and Tory, but she claimed she did not know the reason for the argument. She said they finally pulled off, but Megan was still laughing uncontrollably, and at this point, she said she wanted to know what was so funny.
“That’s when Tory buts in, and he’s like, ‘Yeah Megan, why don’t you tell your best friend what’s so funny. Why don’t you tell her how fake you are,” Harris said, adding that she was confused about the situation, and that’s when the argument ensued between Meg and Tory.
“They’re taking jabs at each other; he’s calling her out her name. He’s calling her like I never heard her speak like this,” she said, adding that she couldn’t recall his exact words but confirmed he said, “bitches and hoes.”
That’s when she stepped in. She said she began to defend Megan, and Tory got offended and directed his anger toward her. “So, he was saying mean things, I was saying mean things back to him,” she said, adding that he insinuated that he was a Canadian gangster.
“It’s like I’m going back and forth with him; he’s going back and forth with Megan,” Harris said. “And, he said, ‘My nigga, I’ll shoot you.” She said he then reached toward the middle console but never pulled anything out.
Harris said the argument continued to escalate, and finally, Megan demanded to get out of the car. Megan jumped out, and Tory followed while the driver and Harris stayed in the car. The two then sat at a nearby bus stop, but Kelsey said she was unclear if they had a discussion at all, but when they returned to the car, it was calm.
Back in their same seats, Tory began apologizing to Kelsey, saying, “I’m sorry, Kelsey, you’re just a real ass nigga, and I had to tell you.” But she said he said it loud enough for Megan to hear, which reignited the argument, now, about their careers.
At this point, Tory demanded the driver pull over to kick the girls out of the car. She said Megan jumped out, and as Kelsey, behind the passenger seat, stepped out of the car, she heard the five shots.
“I look up, maybe at the second or third gunshot, that’s when I look up, and you see Tory; he’s now in the front seat. I guess he must have jumped over; it was a very smooth transition,” she said. “The doors open, and he’s leaning over the door window.”
She said Megan was walking away when the shots rang out, but “by the third, fourth shot and by the time I look up, she’s facing towards us.” Harris said she couldn’t really see her bottom half but added that Tory was aiming the gun toward Megan but down.
“I think everybody was in shock,” Harris said as she explained the driver’s demeanor but added that she couldn’t confirm where Lanez pulled the gun from. “After the shots rang, it was like I said five shots. We kind of froze, and by the time I get back into, you know, I snap, Megan had either crawled or walked or limped over to, she’s in a driveway. Tory sits down in the front passenger seat; I guess just kinda shocked also.”
So, Harris said she ran over to Megan to console her. “Now, I’m in defense mode on behalf of Megan,” she said, realizing Megan was bleeding, assuming she had been shot.
“So I see Tory coming around the vehicle; it’s dark. Lights are hitting him; it’s almost like a scary scene,” Harris said, “So again, I’m in defense mode. I see him coming around the vehicle, and in my head, I think he’s about to come over here and attack us.”
“So I stepped in between where he was coming to where Megan was, and at that point, that’s where the assault between me and him happened, he assaulted me, and Quan then comes, and he picks me up like a little doll, and he’s like, ‘Kelsey, they do this all the time.’ And I said, ‘Huh,’ she’s bleeding, she’s been shot, I don’t know if y’all know, she’s shot.”
Harris said she doesn’t know if Tory was slapping or punching her at the time of the assault, but at this point, she’s still in defense mode, trying to keep Lanez away from Megan. That’s when Lanez attacked Harris again, pulling her hair and neck and snapping her necklace.
Quan then attempts to break the two up, but Lanez had a good grip. “Tory, what are we doing,” she asked, encouraging him to release his grip. From there, everyone gets back in the car.
As Harris recounted the aftermath of the incident, she started to cry. Harris said she explained that Megan told her to call her manager, T Farris, and she, herself, texted Megan’s bodyguard and her mom.
“I was scared,” she said as she continued to cry. “I’m in distraught, so Tory is like demanding, like ‘Shut up, like Shut up, like Kelsey, shut up.”
At that point, police surrounded the vehicle, and that’s when Tory began begging for mercy, offering $1 million to each of them. “She was very calm,” Kelsey said of Megan, as she explained she believed she had a discussion with Lanez that smoothed things over.
Harris said Tory tried to reach her afterward, with the first phone call coming from Tory’s driver Quan, during which he was whispering. The two planned to meet to get her items from him; when they agreed on a location, Tory arrived and apologized for the night.
“He was just apologetic; he said, ‘Kelsey, she attacked me with my artistry,” she said, confirming he put emphasis on being offended over the diss. “He’s being very apologetic, and I’m just like, ‘you need to apologize directly to her.’
Harris said before the meeting, Meg’s team was treating her funny, and she couldn’t understand why. Then during the meeting, Harris said Tory offered her a job, asking if she needed anything from him. “What’s something that you want? What’s something that you want to do? Do you want to invest in a business,” Tory asked her, adding that his lawyer advised him to word it that way, but she still declined.
“I don’t know if he was just trying to correct, right his wrongs for what he did to all of us,” she said, “I don’t want to assume anything.”
By this point, Kelsey said people began to suggest that she was the shooter, and Megan asked if she wanted to include her in her statement. Kelsey said yes, but when the post came out, Megan did not clarify that Kelsey was NOT the shooter.
Kelsey then released her own statement, but the backlash only intensified, and that’s when the beef between Kelsey and Megan ended.
“My purpose of me speaking my truth is just to, I just want to free myself from this,” Harris said. “I tried to free myself a long time ago, but every time you turn around, she’s making a song about me, making a diss track about me, talking about me. And see, that’s the other thing that people don’t understand. They think that we fell out behind Tory; that’s not true.”
The authenticity of the recording, published by StreetTV, has since been confirmed by reporter Meghann Cuniff.
I can easily confirm that the audio floating around of Tory Lanez’s jail call to Kelsey, the gunshots, Kelsey’s interview with prosecutors etc are authentic. Court can release exhibits after trials, and that’s what happened here. I don’t have my own copies yet but will soon.
