After having one of the most successful years in rap history last year, Kendrick Lamar is now starting 2016 off with a bang. The Grammy Award winning rapper is set to receive the key to his hometown of Compton,CA.
“You inspire millions and rep Compton with honor,” Compton Mayor Aja Brown tweeted out in reference to Lamar.
Outside of the accolades he has received as a rapper, including his most recent 11 Grammy nominations, K-Dot has been quite the activist inside and outside of Compton. He’s branded himself as a role model for young black males, reflected by his latest “Hard Work” initiative. Lamar has headlined a number of charity concerts in California, most recently the TDE Christmas concert and toy drive in Nickerson Gardens. Top Dawg’s front runner recently released the teaser from his 2015 sit-down with President Barack Obama, where the two discussed problems faced by intercity youth and mentorship.
The ceremony is set to take place on February 13th. A huge congratulations to Kendrick Lamar!
