The Kennedy Center Revokes 2 Bill Cosby Honors; The “Kennedy Center Honor” And The “Mark Twain Prize For American Humor”

Bill Cosby’s unfortunate demise following last month’s conviction on three counts of aggravated indecent assault is getting deeper and deeper.  Just days after the “Cosby Show” star was expelled from the motion-picture academy, and Yale revoked his 2003 honorary degree, The Kennedy Center has rescinded the two major awards that it gave Cosby.

In 1998 the organization honored him with the Kennedy Center Honor award and in 2009 they awarded him with the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor. Amid the controversy, the Kennedy Center took both honors back.

The center had this to say in a statement, ”The Honors and Mark Twain Prize are given to artists who, through their lifetime of work, have left an indelible impact on American culture.  As a result of Mr. Cosby’s recent criminal conviction, the Board concluded that his actions have overshadowed the very career accomplishments these distinctions from the Kennedy Center intend to recognize.”
