It feels like everyday there is a new story of a high profile person molesting or sexual harrassing someone. Such is the case for Kentucky State Representative, Dan Johnson, who is being accused of molesting a 17 year old girl from his church.
Leaders on both sides are calling for Johnson to quit after the Kentucky Center for Investigative Reporting ( KyCIR) published a report, accusing Johnson of molesting his daughter’s friend at a sleepover. However, he is refusing to resign.
According to the Louisville Courier-Journal, Johnson denies the allegations saying, “This allegation concerning this lady, this young girl, absolutely has no merit, these are unfounded accusations, totally.”⠀⠀⠀⠀
The incident occurred back in 2013 at the fellowship hall next to the Heart of Fire Church. During party at the hall, the victim was reportedly at a sleepover with Johnson’s daughter, in the apartment underneath the establishment. When Johnson came in from the event, he was drunk, so the victim reportedly helped him walk. By the time she woke up, Johnson was kneeling in front of her and reportedly began assaulting her. After he groped her and forcefully kissed her, she managed to push him off and leave the apartment. The victim, who is now 21 years old, never returned to the hall and after not showing up to church, Johnson allegedly sent her a Facebook message.
“Sarah said I was mean to Bo You and Her by telling you all to go to bed so sorry don’t remember I was told we all got drugged at TK’s anyway so sorry if I sounded mean, you know you are one of my favorites, love you sorry! Boaz did Great Sunday! Your future Husband!”
The next day the victim responded via Facebook.
“Drugged or not, I think you know what happened that night and that’s why you’re sending this message. I never thought something like that would happen to me, especially by someone like you. I looked at you as a Dad, but now I sincerely hope I don’t see you again, but I might try to maintain a relationship with your kids. And there is no point in responding to this message either because I don’t want to talk about it ever again.”
Johnson acknowledged that he knew the victim at the news conference, “I don’t want to blast this girl, I have a lot of compassion for her. I’m very sorrowful that she’s in this dark place in her life. This is an assault on all real people, there’s no perfect people and you get into office and all of sudden political hacks come against you and start accusing you after you’re in office.”
