Kevin Durant has often been someone in sports media who is misunderstood. This week, he joined Tony Allen and Zach Randolph on their podcast, Out Tha Mud, where he spoke candidly about his NBA career and his relationship with the two former NBA players.

During the interview, the trio discussed the evolving role of sports media and how former NBA players are transitioning into the media space. Durant explained that while he understands media members are just doing their jobs, he takes issue when former players speak as though they’ve forgotten what it took to reach and sustain success in the league.
“Then the dudes who actually been in life like that go out and don’t tell the full story on what it’s like being one of us—like you go become a media member now and you start to act like you never played in the league,” Durant said to the Memphis Grizzlies legends. “I gotta work on not letting it affect me as much, ‘cause I’m like, ‘Yo, the game is way more sacred than this, way more prestigious than this.’ That’s why people ain’t watching no more. Y’all talking s@$* and disrespecting a product. So every chance I get, bro, I’ma make sure they know. You ain’t getting that s*#% off on me.”
Durant also addressed the fact that many legacy conversations are overly focused on NBA Finals success, arguing that there’s much more to the game than just that narrative. It was a raw and honest interview, where Durant spoke openly with two of his “OGs.”
