Kevin Garnett is caught in a legal battle with his estranged wife because she says their prenuptial agreement is incorrect.
Garnett filed a request to bifurcate their divorce and set up a trial to go over the logistics of his prenuptial agreement with #BrandiGarnett.
Kevin says there’s a “dispute” between the two, as Brandi is claiming she signed their premarital agreement “under duress.” The trial, Kevin explained, is so the two parties can discuss the full logistics of the prenuptial agreement before discussing how their assets will be split up. He also wants to discuss the guidelines that go along with how he will have to pay Brandi temporarily.
In Kevin’s declaration, he wrote, “I began playing for the Minnesota Timberwolves in 1995, about nine years before Brandi and I married.” He estimates that “my total earnings during the time I played for the NBA were over $300 million.” However, Kevin says he is enduring financial hardship due to his financial advisor, Charles Banks, allegedly embezzling millions of dollars from him, Yahoo Entertainment reports. “I was shocked and extremely distressed to learn that Banks had embezzled approximately $70 million from my savings and investment accounts,” he explains.
Kevin and Brandi are separating after 14 years of marriage. Brandi is seeking full custody of their two daughters, and Kevin has agreed to temporarily pay $100,000 in child support.
However, he believes invalidating the prenuptial agreement will allow Brandi to receive an additional “windfall” of support that may not be warranted if the agreement is enforced. The former NBA star’s request will be discussed next month.
