The journey of Kevin Porter Jr. has taken a stark turn. Once a high-flying NBA athlete with an $80 million deal in his pocket, Porter now finds himself playing basketball in Greece for a mere $10K, according to HotNewHipHop. His career took a nosedive following his arrest and subsequent charges of assault and strangulation involving his then-girlfriend and WNBA player Kysre Gondrezick in September 2023. This incident led to Gondrezick being hospitalized with significant injuries.
Post the scandal, the Houston Rockets traded Porter to the Oklahoma City Thunder, who then cut ties with him immediately, leaving him without a team in the NBA. His fall from grace wasn’t sudden; it was built on a foundation of previous incidents and red flags dating back to his college days at USC and continuing through his professional career, including a 2020 charge for illegal handling of a firearm.
Now, in a bid to salvage what remains of his basketball career, Porter has signed on with PAOK in Greece’s Stoiximan Basket League. His tenure in Greece has been anything but smooth, with limited playtime and struggles adapting to the European style of play. The move to Europe marks a significant downgrade from the NBA lifestyle he once advertised on social media, showcasing a big contract and team jerseys, a far cry from his current reality.
As the season in Greece wraps up in mid-May, it remains uncertain where Porter’s career will head next, but a return to the NBA seems highly unlikely at this point.
