A popular Key West tourist attraction was vandalized early Saturday, and now police are looking for the vandals responsible.
The massive Southernmost Point buoy, which reads “90 miles to Cuba,” was charred when a Christmas tree was lit on fire in front of it.
A webcam of the attraction captured the whole thing on video. The footage captured two men placing the tree in front of the buoy and setting it on fire between 3 a.m. and 3:30 a.m., according to police. The flames left a big black burn mark on the monument.
The arsonists have not been arrested, and the incident is still under investigation. Police are asking anyone with information to reach out.
The burn mark didn’t stop tourists, who still gathered to take pictures in front of the damaged monument.
