Keyshia Cole turns 43 today, and she remains one of the most adored R&B singers of the early 2000s.
The decorated vocalist and songwriter was born on October 15th, 1981, in Oakland, California. As a West Coast native, artists such as Tupac Shakur influenced Cole’s music and authenticity. Fans were introduced to this when her career took off in 2005 with the release of her debut album, “The Way It Is,” which produced hits like “I Should Have Cheated” and “Love.” The album went platinum, solidifying her as a unique voice within the R&B realm. In the years that followed, she continued to release successful albums, including 2007‘s “Just Like You,” which spawned the Grammy-nominated hit “Heaven Sent,” with Cole’s “A Different Me” album arriving in 2008. Her versatility and emotional depth attracted Shakur’s estate, who granted her a verse from the late rapper for her record, “Playa Cardz Right.”
One of Cole’s most notable achievements was starring in her own reality TV show, “Keyshia Cole: The Way It Is,” which offered fans an intimate look into her personal life with her family. The show’s success led to spin-offs, including “Keyshia & Daniel: Family First,” which showcased her relationship with former NBA player Daniel Gibson.
As we honor Keyshia Cole’s birthday, we are reminded just how much she has inspired fans and a new wave of singers, solidifying her legacy as one of the most adored voices in the genre.
