You can now enjoy KFC’s finger-licking good Kentucky fried chicken as a vegetarian.
In the US, Customers may experience KFC’s new Beyond Fried Chicken, made exclusively for KFC starting Monday at participating locations.
Beyond Fried Chicken’s mission is to replicate the flavor and texture of KFC’s whole muscle chicken, without using any actual chicken.
“The mission from day one was simple – make the world-famous Kentucky Fried Chicken from plants,” said President of KFC U.S. Kevin Hochman. “And now over two years later we can say, ‘mission accomplished.’”
KFC’s first-ever plant-based combo meal, Beyond Fried Chicken, is available with Secret Recipe Fries and a medium drink. Customers can choose six or 12-piece orders of nuggets.
Unfortunately, Beyond Fried Chicken is cooked in the same fryer as their meat products, so the chain cannot guarantee no cross-contamination.
Some customers in the United States have already tried different versions of the plant-based chicken recipe. Customers in Atlanta were given the opportunity to experience the first version of the Beyond Fried Chicken in August of 2019. The limited-edition debut went well, with the test location selling out in less than five hours. Customers were ecstatic when KFC and Beyond Meat expanded the test to select stores in Nashville, Charlotte, and Southern California in 2020.
KFC has hired actress and creator Liza Koshy to be the face of the KFC and Beyond Meat promotion now that the product is available nationwide.
Additionally, Beyond Meat has worked with McDonald’s on McPlants, Pizza Hut on Beyond Pepperoni, Panda Express on Orange Chicken and other fast-food chains such as Starbucks, Denny’s, and Del Taco.
