Killer Mike’s 2024 Grammy arrest might be behind him, but he is not allowing those responsible to get away with their excessive actions.
The rapper is now suing over the ordeal, pointing fingers at the private security firms hired for the event. In lawsuit docs obtained by TMZ, Mike claims he was stopped on his way to the red carpet despite holding all necessary credentials. He had just won multiple awards and was heading to media interviews. According to the Atlanta rapper, the security firms, S&S Labor Force Inc. and JRM Private Security, granted their employees unchecked authority, resulting in an unlawful citizen’s arrest. He alleges security staff physically assaulted and restrained him in public view, causing significant emotional distress and humiliation.
The situation escalated when security falsely detained the 49-year-old, leading to his arrest by the police. Mike says he was held for hours in jail, ultimately missing the chance to present an award on live television.
Although he was released the same night, and prosecutors later declined to pursue charges, the damage had been done. Mike insists the incident harmed his reputation and career, stating, “The whole saga caused me unnecessary public embarrassment, distress, and professional harm.”
Now, he’s seeking justice, holding the security firms accountable for their actions. On a happier note, Mike secured Grammys for Best Rap Album (“Michael”), Best Rap Song, and Best Rap Performance for “Scientists & Engineers” before that February 2024 night took a turn.
